Odds Betting Super Bowl 2023

Odds are a numerical expression of the likelihood of a possible sporting outcome taking place. For example, let’s take the odds to win Super Bowl 2020:

Super Bowl favourites, the Baltimore Ravens are given 2.87 odds to win Super Bowl 2020 at the moment. (William Hill) The odds represent what the bookmaker believes is the chance of the Ravens winning the Super Bowl.

What this means for you is that the return you get for betting on the Ravens will multiply your stake by the odds. So a bet of 10 dollars with odds of 2.87 would yield, 10 * 2.87 = $28.70.

What types of odds are offered?

There are three types of odds offered by most major online sports betting sites: decimal, fractional and American. All three formats provide the same overall returns but display odds in different formats.

Decimal– decimal odds give the ratio of the payout amount, including the original stake, to the stake itself. So a bet of $10 on 2.00 odds would get you 10*2.00 = $20 in total.

Fractional– fractional odds quote the net total that will be paid out to you, relative to the stake. So a bet of $10 with 2/1 odds would get you 10*2 = $20 in profit. Your total would be $30.

American– American odds can be displayed either negative or positive. If negative the figure indicates how much money must be wagered to win $100. If positive the figure indicates how much money will be won on a $100 wager.

Example: +400 Super Bowl odds would get a return of $400 on a $100 bet. -400 Super Bowl odds would require you to bet $400 to get a return of $100.
