The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation inked in a deal with Major League Baseball to become an official betting partner. The multi-year deal marks the MLB’s first partnership in Ontario and will give the OLG distribution rights to MLB official branding as well as allow promotional content across MLB social and digital platforms. Additionally, a series of free-to-play digital games are expected to be introduced throughout the entire baseball season.
The partnership is hoped to engage baseball fans in Ontario. Executive Vice President of Business Development for MLB, Kenny Gersh, emphasized that the league is looking to expand the sport’s influence in the region and that the OLG is an ideal fit. With years of sports betting experience and a sterling reputation the OLG’s expertise in Ontario is almost sure to help the MLB’s footprint in the province to grow.
Distribution of MLB content will happen through the OLG’s Proline Sportsbook which provides retail betting through nearly 10,000 lottery outlets throughout Ontario. Online betting is also available via the Proline+ platform from anywhere within the province.
Proline+ launched in August 2021 to become Ontario’s first legal sports betting platform. The sportsbook offers Canadian players the chance to bet on a wide variety of American sports leagues, including college sports. Bettors can also find a few international sports such as Soccer and Tennis.
As you’d expect, the MLB has taken a number of steps to ensure the integrity of the partnership with its own comprehensive responsible gambling measures. OLG operates via PlaySmart, a platform aiming to provide information and educational materials to encourage responsible gambling. Playsmart also features a range of online tools, enabling players to customize their betting experience to their preferences and needs.
